What the law says
Resuscitation Council UK quality standards expect organisations to make sure staff are trained to the level their role demands, and refreshed regularly — usually annually for clinical resuscitation skills. In England, CQC looks for evidence that staff can respond to a deteriorating patient, which is exactly what ILS covers. The one-year certificate matches the annual refresher cycle most employers work to.
How we assess learning
Scenario-based practical assessments through the day, with the trainer working alongside each person, plus a multiple-choice written theory test. With six people maximum, everyone is assessed properly rather than watching from the back.

Do staff need BLS first?
Yes, in-date BLS certification is the entry requirement. We run BLS too, so we can sort both.
Does ILS training cover children and infants?
No. ILS covers adult resuscitation. If your staff care for babies or children, our paediatric immediate life support training covers the seriously ill or deteriorating child.
Can non-clinical staff do ILS?
ILS is built for clinical staff who may have to manage a deteriorating patient. For receptionists, administrators and other non-clinical staff, basic life support is usually the better fit, and it's also the entry requirement for ILS.
How long does the certificate last?
One year, which matches the annual refresher cycle most healthcare employers work to. The refresher is the same course at the same price — £395+VAT for up to six. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What does ILS training cover?
Everything your team needs to manage a deteriorating patient and the first minutes of a cardiac arrest, before the ambulance or resuscitation team arrives. That starts with patient assessment and recognising the deteriorating patient: scene safety, a structured ABCDE assessment (airway, breathing, circulation, disability, exposure), vital signs and level of consciousness, reassessment, and escalation using SBAR. Then the airway management ladder, from simple manoeuvres such as head tilt and chin lift up to airway adjuncts (oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, and i-gel); quality CPR and safe defibrillation with an AED; and identifying the reversible causes of unconsciousness. Most of the day is scenario practicals. The course follows current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, and staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, not an RCUK certificate.
Does ILS cover working as a team in a resuscitation attempt?
Yes. In the scenarios, staff take turns as team members and as team leader: sharing out the responsibilities of compressions, airway management and the defibrillator, swapping CPR roles so compressions stay effective, communicating clearly, and handing over when the ambulance crew or resuscitation team arrives. With six staff maximum, everyone gets proper time in the scenarios.
How does ILS fit between BLS and ALS?
It's the middle step. Basic Life Support (BLS) covers recognising a cardiac arrest, CPR and using an AED, and in-date BLS is the entry requirement for ILS. ILS builds on it for clinical staff, adding patient assessment, airway management and the reversible causes, so staff can manage the first minutes until expert help arrives. Advanced Life Support (ALS) is the level above. It goes further into clinical interventions, takes longer, and is for staff who may lead a resuscitation team, such as doctors and senior nurses. Kasorb doesn't run ALS. People sometimes search for "intermediate life support". The correct name is Immediate Life Support, and it's this course.
