Compliance and certification
Kasorb's moving and handling training is a practical, non-accredited course, mapped to the Core Skills Training Framework (England), which is widely recognised across care. Every member of staff is assessed practically on the day and receives a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for one year. Your trainer also leaves you the evaluation paperwork, which records the equipment each person was trained on, for their personnel file. It's designed to help you meet your duties under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) and, in England, CQC's expectation that staff can move people safely.

How it works
- Book online and pick a date. It's usually confirmed within 48 hours.
- Tell us what equipment you have on site — including any specialist transfer equipment, such as a Pedi-turn, ReTurn, Mo Lift, Sara Stedy or Cricket hoist — so your trainer comes prepared.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm the rooms and timings.
- Morning: the foundations. The law and regulations, ergonomics, risk assessment and the principles of safer handling — the groundwork the practical builds on.
- Afternoon: moving and positioning people, on the hoists, slings, slide sheets and beds your team uses every day.
- Certificates are emailed the next day, and the evaluation paperwork is left with you on the day.

What the law says
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) require employers to reduce the risk of hazardous handling as far as reasonably practicable, including through training. Where staff use hoists and slings, LOLER 1998 also applies. In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects staff to move people safely, and Regulation 18 expects them to be suitably trained. Training on your own equipment is the simplest way to show both.
How we assess learning
There are practical assessments throughout the afternoon. The course involves bending, kneeling and working at floor level, so staff need comfortable clothing and closed-toe footwear — no open-toe sandals — and need to be physically able to take part in the practical safely.
Your trainer
Your trainer is a professional moving and handling adviser who follows The Guide to the Handling of People: Person-Centred Practice (HOP7, 7th edition), the standard UK reference.
Because they train on your equipment in your setting, your team leaves knowing how to use what they have, not a generic kit they'll never see again.
Logistics
- Rooms: a room for the morning session, then somewhere with the equipment for the afternoon practical — most clients use an unoccupied resident's room, since few have a training room with beds
- Your equipment: you provide what your team actually uses — hoists, slings, handling belts, beds, wheelchairs and any specialist transfer equipment. Slings need to be the ones that fit your hoists. Have the service and safety-check records to hand: your trainer checks them on the day and can't train on equipment without them (LOLER 1998)
- What the trainer brings: slide sheets and a model for demonstrating back movement

More than 12 to train? Book a second day at the same flat rate — so 20 staff is two days, £790+VAT. Several sites? We can run the same course across your sites; a £100+VAT admin fee applies to multi-site bookings. Small team? Three is the practical minimum. The rate is the same, so smaller groups get more hands-on time each.
Frequently asked questions
What if our hoist service records aren't up to date?
Worth checking before the day. Your trainer checks each piece of lifting equipment for its service tag and records on the morning of the course, and can't train on anything without them — that's LOLER 1998, not a Kasorb rule. If something has to be set aside, the trainer works around it and covers the rest.
Will this satisfy CQC?
CQC assesses whether your staff can move people safely and whether you can evidence their training. It doesn't require a particular awarding body. You get a practical assessment on the day, a certificate for each member of staff, and evaluation paperwork recording the equipment they trained on — the course is also mapped to the Core Skills Training Framework. If you need a regulated qualification for a specific contract, tell us and we'll say plainly whether we can provide it.
Why is the certificate valid for one year, when others offer three?
Three-year certificates are normal for moving objects, not people. For people-handling, the Core Skills Training Framework generally recommends two years, and one year is best practice, because the skills fade and the stakes are higher. After a year, staff retake the course.
Can anyone attend?
Anyone who moves and positions people at work — but they do need to be physically able to take part. The practical involves bending, kneeling and supporting weight, and for their own safety the trainer can't assess someone who can't do it without risk of injury. If you're unsure about a member of staff, talk to us before booking and we'll advise.
How long is the course?
A full day, 09:30 to 16:30. The foundations in the morning, moving and positioning people in the afternoon. It can't be split, because the theory has to come before the practical for certification.
Do you train on our equipment?
Yes — that's the point. Your team practises on the hoists, slings and aids they use every day, including specialist transfer equipment. Let us know what you have on site when you book.
What should staff wear?
Comfortable clothes they can bend and kneel in, and closed-toe footwear — no open-toe sandals.
Is this the same as manual handling training?
Manual handling usually means objects. This course covers people and loads together in one day. If you only need objects covered, there's a separate three-hour course.
How far ahead should we book?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
