Manual handling training for up to 12 staff, £395+VAT flat
Half a day · On-site or live online · Two sessions in one day for no extra cost
Manual handling training teaches staff to lift, carry, push and pull loads safely, and to assess the risk before they start. Kasorb delivers it in half a day at your workplace, with a trainer watching and correcting each person's technique, or live online. £395+VAT covers up to 12 staff, and because it's a day rate you can run two sessions and train up to 24.
- A trainer checks every person's technique — which no e-learning course can do
- Practical lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, applied to the handling your team does
- One flat rate for up to 12 staff — no per-person charges, no travel costs
- Two sessions in one day for one £395+VAT rate — up to 24 staff
- Certificates emailed the next day

Course specification
How it works
- Book online. One session, or two on the same day. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date.
- Tell us what your team handles — boxes, stock, furniture, kegs — and your trainer applies the principles to it. Send your policies and procedures at least 7 days before and they'll be covered too.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm the room.
- Three hours: the principles and the law, then practical lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.
What the course covers
- Your policies and procedures, if sent at least 7 days before
- Practical risk assessment, including TILE: task, individual, load, environment
- Good posture and applying ergonomic principles
- The principles of safer handling
- Applying those principles to moving loads
- A range of lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling activities
By the end, your staff will:
- understand how policy, health and safety and risk assessment fit together
- be able to carry out practical and dynamic risk assessments before they lift
- be able to apply the principles and demonstrate safer handling
Who needs this training
Anyone whose job involves lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling:
- Warehouse, logistics and delivery staff
- Retail and stockroom teams
- Hospitality, catering and cellar staff
- Office, facilities and maintenance teams
- School site and support staff
- Anyone being retrained after an incident, a near miss, or a question from your insurer or the HSE
Moving people rather than loads? Care teams need our Moving & Handling People course, which covers hoists, slings and slide sheets.
What the law says
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) require employers to avoid hazardous manual handling where they reasonably can, assess the risk where they can't, and reduce it — which includes giving staff information and training. Manual handling is one of the most common causes of workplace injury reported to the HSE, and training that's practical, and specific to what your team actually lifts, is the part most often done badly.
How we assess learning
Practical assessments during the session. It involves bending, kneeling and floor-level work, so staff need suitable clothing and closed-toe footwear, and need to be physically able to take part. If anyone has an injury or condition that might get in the way, tell us when you book.
Your trainer
Your trainer is a professional manual handling trainer, vetted through our five-stage onboarding.
They apply the principles to the handling your team does day to day, so the training is relevant rather than generic.
Logistics
- Room: space for horseshoe seating and room to carry out the practical
- You provide: a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: laptop and projector
- Group size: 1 to 12 per session
- Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online. On-site is better, because the trainer can check each person's technique in the room
- Online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one each, and no more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
£395+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team keeps things running.
More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.
Frequently asked questions
Is manual handling training a legal requirement?
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations require employers to reduce the risk from hazardous manual handling, and training is one of the ways they're expected to do it. There's no fixed course the law names, but you need to be able to show your staff have been trained for the handling they do.
How long does the certificate last?
One year. Some providers offer three, but handling habits slip quickly — people revert to lifting the way they always have — and an annual refresher is what most employers put in place after an injury. A one-year certificate keeps your records in line with that.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12. Staff practise with everyday objects at their end while the trainer watches on camera, or follow a demonstration where that isn't practical. On-site is better: the trainer watches and corrects each person's technique in the room, which is where injuries are prevented. Either way, it's a live trainer, not a £15 e-learning module.
Will our insurer accept it?
Insurers and the HSE look for evidence that staff were trained for the handling they actually do: practical, assessed, and recorded, with dated certificates. That's what this gives you. It's not an accredited qualification, and it doesn't need to be — there's no awarding body the regulations require.
Do you train staff on our equipment?
Not on specific equipment such as warehouse machinery — that's equipment-specific training, usually from the supplier. The practical uses everyday loads, and your trainer applies the principles to what your team handles.
What should staff wear?
Comfortable clothes they can bend and kneel in, and closed-toe footwear.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions on the same day for the same £395+VAT — up to 24 staff.
We're a care provider — is this the right course?
If your staff move people, you need Moving & Handling People, which covers hoists, slings and slide sheets. This course is for moving objects.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
