Fire marshal training makes the people you appoint under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 genuinely competent to do the job: sweep their area, manage the evacuation, assist anyone who needs help, and use an extinguisher when it's safe to. Kasorb trains up to twelve marshals at your own premises for £395 +VAT flat — on your actual escape routes, with your alarm points and assembly areas, certificate valid three years.

This is training booked by employers: offices, care settings, schools, warehouses and multi-site operators who need named, trained marshals on every floor and every shift.

What fire marshal training covers

The role and legal responsibilities of a fire marshal, fire behaviour and common workplace causes, your building's evacuation procedures, sweep and roll-call duties, assisting vulnerable persons, and hands-on fire extinguisher use — which types on which fires, and when not to fight. Because we train on-site, your marshals drill on their own escape routes, alarm points and assembly areas rather than a training centre's diagrams.

How much does fire marshal training cost?

£395 +VAT flat for up to twelve marshals at your premises. Open courses typically run £50–£95 per person off-site; training your full marshal roster together on your own building costs less for a team, takes half a day, and produces marshals who know the actual routes they'd sweep.

How many fire marshals do we need?

Enough that every area of your premises has marshal cover on every shift, with contingency for absence — the number depends on building size, layout, occupancy and how your people are distributed. A single-floor office might need two or three; a multi-floor or shift-based operation needs marshals per floor per shift. Your fire risk assessment sets the number.

Who needs fire marshal training?

  • Appointed fire marshals and wardens in any workplace — the appointment creates the training need
  • Care homes and healthcare settings, where evacuation plans involve people who need assistance and inspection scrutiny is highest
  • Schools and nurseries with statutory drills and young evacuees
  • Offices and multi-tenant buildings — even low-risk premises must have competent evacuation cover on every shift
  • Warehouses, manufacturers and hospitality, where layouts, night shifts and public occupancy raise the bar

The legal position

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person — usually the employer — must provide general fire safety training to all staff and appoint sufficient competent persons to assist with evacuation. Fire marshals are how organisations meet that duty, and a fire officer inspecting your premises will expect to see who your marshals are, when they were trained, and records to prove it. Our course delivers inspection-ready documentation for every delegate: role, training date, content covered and renewal date.

Fire marshal training FAQs

Is fire marshal training a legal requirement?

The Fire Safety Order requires the responsible person to appoint sufficient competent persons to assist with evacuation — in practice, trained fire marshals. All staff must also receive general fire safety training. So while the law doesn't name "fire marshal training" as a product, appointing marshals without training them fails the competence requirement.

How often should fire marshal training be renewed?

Our certificate runs three years; many organisations refresh every one to two years where premises are complex or turnover is high, and after any significant change to the building or evacuation procedure.

Fire marshal or fire warden — what's the difference?

None in law — the titles are used interchangeably. Some organisations use "warden" for day-to-day prevention checks and "marshal" for evacuation roles, but the training requirement is the same.

Does the course include live extinguisher practice?

The standard course includes extinguisher handling and selection. If you want live-fire extinguisher discharge practice, our fire marshal with extinguishers course adds it.
