Completed Fire Awareness and Fire Marshal training with Chris - the training was fully comprehensive for our needs, and I found Chris to be very personable, knowledgeable and polite; as well as being great at keeping everyone engaged for the full day. Highly recommend!

Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. It has no fixed expiry: fire safety law expects training to be repeated periodically and when risks change, so your fire risk assessment or policy sets the refresher cycle. Kasorb is a member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers. It isn't a regulated qualification.

How it works

  1. Book online. One session, or two on the same day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
  2. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and to understand your building and your fire procedures.
  3. Three hours, with a short break.
  4. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the course covers

  • Fire safety law, and what the fire statistics tell us
  • How fire starts and spreads
  • The most common causes of fire at work
  • Preventing fires
  • What to do if you discover a fire
  • What to do when the alarm sounds
  • Human behaviour in a fire
  • Fire safety signs
  • Extinguisher types, and what each one is for

Who needs this training

All staff, as part of induction and regular refreshers:

  • Care and support staff
  • Office, reception and administrative teams
  • Domestic, catering and maintenance staff
  • Retail, hospitality and warehouse teams
  • New starters, and anyone who hasn't had fire training at your premises

People you appoint to lead an evacuation need our Fire Marshal course. We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What the law says

Fire safety law requires the responsible person for a premises to give staff adequate fire safety training when they start, and again when they're exposed to new or increased risks — repeated periodically where appropriate.

The exact legislation depends where you are: the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales, the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 in Scotland, and the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 with the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. The duty to train staff runs through all of them.

How we assess learning

Learning is checked throughout the session through questions and discussion, including how your own fire procedures work.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real — some of our fire trainers are serving or former firefighters — and teaches fire safety in terms of your own building and procedures, answering staff questions as they go. Kasorb is a member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers.

Logistics

  • Room: seating for up to 12, classroom style, with a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
  • Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
  • Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, or live online
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team carries on working.

More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from fire marshal training?

This course is for all staff: preventing fires, raising the alarm and getting out safely. Fire Marshal training is for the people you appoint to lead an evacuation — sweeping their area, managing the evacuation and assisting anyone who needs help.

Can it run on the same day as Fire Marshal training?

Yes. Fire Marshal is a half-day course charged by the day, so when you book Fire Marshal, the other half of the day can be Fire Safety Awareness for the rest of your staff, at no extra cost.

Do staff use fire extinguishers?

No. The course covers the types of extinguisher and what each one is for. Hands-on extinguisher practice is an add-on to Fire Marshal training.

Can it be done online?

Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's knowledge-based, so it works well online. On-site, the discussion can turn to your own building and procedures.

How often should staff refresh?

The certificate has no fixed expiry. Fire safety law expects training to be repeated periodically, and whenever your premises, procedures or risks change — so set a refresher cycle in your fire risk assessment or policy.

Why not e-learning?

E-learning gives everyone the same slides. Here, a trainer talks your team through what to do in your own building, and answers their questions as they go. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
