Moving and handling train the trainer equips experienced staff to deliver moving and handling training in-house: the theory and practice of manual handling training, risk assessment principles, the anatomy of the spine, and how to set up, deliver and assess sessions — including how to assess delegates on your own equipment. Kasorb delivers it over three days at your workplace — two days of training, then an observed day where each trainee teaches a real session they've planned themselves — with a two-day refresher also available to keep trainers current. The days usually run back to back, but can be spread out if that suits you.

  • Two days' training, plus an observed day teaching a session they've planned themselves
  • Built on the latest edition of The Guide to the Handling of People and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • Learn how to assess your delegates on your own equipment
  • A two-day refresher also available to keep your trainers current
  • £2,985+VAT for up to eight trainees — around £373 each

Great course very practical ,was very hands on, which makes it much easier to learn procedures, much better than lectures and bullet points, teacher was great, no silly jokes just straight to the point.

Compliance and certification

Trainees receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years, with an annual refresher recommended. It isn't a regulated trainer qualification. We provide templates and the skills to build and deliver a course around your own requirements and policies — not a ready-made course to deliver.

How it works

  1. Enquire with your postcode, group size and preferred dates. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date.
  2. Check entry requirements: trainees who'll teach moving and positioning of people need an in-date Moving & Positioning of People qualification or certificate themselves. Those who won't move people and will train on objects only need an in-date manual handling qualification or certificate.
  3. Days 1–2: skills and knowledge, assessed as you go — the theory and practice of delivering manual handling training, risk assessment principles (to include TILE and dynamic risk assessment), the spine, learning styles, and setting up and delivering sessions.
  4. Day 3: the micro-teach. Each trainee delivers a 15-minute session they've planned, which is observed and assessed by our trainer, including assessing delegates on your own equipment. This is where everything comes together before certification.
  5. Certificates are emailed the day after day 3.
  6. Then practise: practice makes perfect — skills gained on the course should be observed internally, with supervision, to really hone the new trainer in you.

What the course covers

  • Theory of manual handling training, including the health and safety aspects
  • Practical aspects of manual handling training
  • Principles of manual handling risk assessment
  • The anatomy of the spine, its purpose and what can go wrong
  • Setting up your training sessions
  • Different learning styles
  • Delivering the theory session
  • Delivering the practical session
  • Developing and delivering a 15-minute micro-teach
  • Developing and maintaining your own CPD and trainer portfolio
  • Tutor observation of a training course

Who needs this training

Experienced care staff, team leaders and clinical leads who will deliver moving and handling training within their organisation. Before this course: trainees who will teach moving and positioning of people need an in-date Moving & Positioning of People qualification or certificate themselves. Those who won't move people and will train on objects only need an in-date manual handling qualification or certificate. We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What trainees leave with: the skills and knowledge to build and deliver their own course, based on your requirements and policies. We provide templates to help, and if you already have an in-house moving and handling presentation we can base the training around it — we don't supply a ready-made course to deliver.

What the law says

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) require employers to give staff information and training on safe handling. Training your own trainers lets you deliver that in-house, on your own equipment and to your own policies, with safe and best practice based on the latest edition of The Guide to the Handling of People: Person-Centred Practice, the standard UK reference.

How we assess learning

Days 1 and 2 are skills and knowledge days, assessed at the time. Day 3 is the micro-teach — an observed, assessed training session where everything comes together before certification.

Your trainer

Your trainer is an experienced moving and handling trainer and assessor.

Logistics

  • Room: a training room with space for practical work, and access to the equipment your trainees will train others on
  • You provide: a projector screen or blank wall, and a flipchart; your moving and handling equipment, with service records to hand
  • The trainer brings: laptop, projector and templates trainees can build their own course from
  • Group size: up to 8
  • Timing: 09:30–16:30 each day
  • Anywhere in the UK, on-site only
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£995+VAT a day — £2,985+VAT for the three days — for up to 8 trainees, about £373 each. The two-day refresher is £995+VAT a day (£1,990+VAT).

Frequently asked questions

Is it an accredited trainer qualification?

No — trainees receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. What they get is two days' training and a real, observed teaching session, including how to assess delegates on your own equipment.

Why train in-house trainers?

For larger providers, in-house trainers can deliver inductions and refreshers as staff join — while your trainers keep their own skills current with our refresher.

What's the observation day?

Each trainee plans and teaches a real session to colleagues on the training course, observed and assessed by our trainer, so they finish having actually done it — with a session built around your own policies and equipment.

Do the three days have to be back to back?

Usually they are, but they can be spread out — for example, leaving a gap before the observed day so trainees can prepare their session.

Will CQC accept trainers without an accredited trainer award?

CQC looks at whether your trainers are competent and your staff are trained effectively — not at which certificate the trainer holds. After the course, we recommend new trainers shadow internally — co-delivering with an experienced colleague — until they're confident to deliver on their own.

How often should trainers refresh?

The certificate is valid for three years, and we recommend an annual refresher to keep knowledge and practice up to date — our two-day refresher is £995+VAT per day.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
