Kasorb attended our dental practice to re certify our ILS training. The course was delivered fantastically and kept us well engaged with the course. Stephen Lawson the course tutor was super friendly, helpful at the practical scenarios and wasn’t all about pointing at a power point but it was there for us to refer too. He showed relevant videos that demonstrated his explanations.

What the law says
Resuscitation Council UK's quality standards for primary dental care expect dental staff's resuscitation knowledge and skills to be updated at least annually, and the GDC expects all registrants to be trained in dealing with medical emergencies.
For teams providing conscious sedation, the Intercollegiate Advisory Committee for Sedation in Dentistry (IACSD) standards (2020) expect sedation practitioners to deliver immediate life support suited to the patient's age, with deployable airway skills including positive-pressure ventilation. They don't require a Resuscitation Council UK ILS course.
How we assess learning
Staff work through practical scenarios in your surgery, with feedback from the trainer, and complete a multiple-choice theory test.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and runs the scenarios at your own dental chair with your practice's emergency kit — so your team practises with the equipment they'd reach for in a real emergency.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — plus a surgery for the chairside scenarios
- You provide: your practice's emergency drugs kit, oxygen and AED for the scenarios
- The trainer brings: manikins and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 6, so everyone gets hands-on time
- Timing: 09:30–16:30; staff arrive at 09:00
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, on-site
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from your standard ILS course?
It covers the same immediate life support skills, aligned with Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, but runs at your dental chair with your own emergency drugs and kit, and includes sedation-related emergencies. Our immediate life support course is for healthcare teams in other settings.
How is it different from Medical Emergencies for Dental Practices?
Medical emergencies for dental practices is a four-hour whole-team session on the emergencies you're most likely to see, for up to 12. Dental ILS is a full day of immediate life support skills for up to 6, often for sedation teams.
Do staff need basic life support first?
Yes. Staff should hold in-date basic life support training.
We sedate children. Is this enough?
This course focuses on adult patients. If your team sedates children, they also need paediatric life support skills — see paediatric immediate life support.
Does it count towards CPD?
Yes. The training counts towards CPD, and staff can log it in their CPD records.
Can it be done online?
No. It's hands-on, so it's on-site at your practice.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
