Compliance and certification
Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for two years, for your training file. It isn't a regulated qualification. Your team leaves trained and ready for the usual final step with any clinical skill: your own supervised competency sign-off against your policies and each person's care plan. The training counts towards staff CPD.

How it works
- Enquire with your postcode and team size, and whether you need half a day or a full day. We'll come back with a price within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and brings male, female and suprapubic catheterisation models. Send your catheterisation policy in advance and they'll work from it.
- Theory, then practice: each person demonstrates aseptic technique and catheter insertion on the models.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.
- Then your own supervised competency sign-off in practice, before staff catheterise on their own.
What the course covers
- The current rationale for catheterisation
- Anatomy and physiology of the urinary system, bladder and kidneys
- Common associated conditions
- Current management of cystitis and urinary tract infection
- Hand washing and aseptic technique
- Catheterisation protocol on male and female anatomical models, including suprapubic
- Care planning for someone with a catheter
By the end, your staff will be able to:
- demonstrate aseptic technique
- demonstrate inserting an indwelling self-retaining urethral catheter
- demonstrate inserting a suprapubic catheter
Who needs this training
- Nurses
- Care practitioners and nursing associates
- Senior carers, where your policies and delegation arrangements allow
Only need catheter care, not insertion? Our Catheter Care course is for staff who look after catheters day to day — bag changes, valves, specimens and hygiene.
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects the people providing care and treatment to have the qualifications, competence, skills and experience to do so safely, and expects providers to prevent and control the spread of infection. Catheterisation carries a real infection risk, so a training record showing aseptic technique practised and demonstrated, followed by your own supervised competency sign-off, is the evidence inspectors look for. Care regulators in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland expect the same of the services they inspect.
How we assess learning
Each person demonstrates aseptic technique and catheter insertion on the anatomical models, with feedback from the trainer. After the course, your own supervised competency sign-off confirms each person in practice.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, as a clinical professional. They bring male, female and suprapubic catheterisation models, and if you send your catheterisation policy in advance, they'll build it into the session.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is a table for the models with space for staff to gather round, and a clear wall or screen
- The trainer brings: male, female and suprapubic catheterisation models and the training equipment
- Group size: 2 to 10 — so everyone has time on the models
- Timing: half day 09:30–12:30 or 13:30–16:30, or a full day 09:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, on-site
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
Clinical courses are priced by location: they're taught by specialist clinical trainers, and the price depends on where you are and how far your trainer needs to travel. Send us your postcode and team size and we'll confirm the price within 48 hours. It's one price for the group, up to 10 staff — not per person.
More than 10 staff? We'll quote for another session.

Frequently asked questions
Half day or full day — which do we need?
Half a day covers the theory and practice for most teams. Choose the full day if your staff are new to catheterisation, or you want more time on the models. The price is the same either way.
Can senior carers catheterise?
That depends on your policies, how clinical tasks are delegated in your service, and each person's care plan. Many services train senior carers, followed by a supervised competency sign-off before they catheterise on their own. Look at your policy first — we're happy to talk it through.
Does it cover suprapubic catheters?
Yes. Staff practise inserting a suprapubic catheter on a suprapubic model, as well as male and female urethral catheterisation.
Does this course sign staff off?
Your team leaves trained, with a certificate to show it. As with any clinical skill, the final step is your own supervised competency sign-off in practice.
How is this different from catheter care training?
Catheterisation covers inserting catheters, for nurses, care practitioners and senior carers. Catheter care is for staff who look after catheters day to day: bag and valve changes, specimens, removal and hygiene. Many services book both.
Can it be done online?
No. It's practical, on anatomical models, so it's on-site only.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
