Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years. Many services refresh infection control more often, in line with their own policy. It isn't a regulated qualification.

How it works

  1. Book online. One session, or two on the same day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
  2. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics. If you send your infection control policy or outbreak plan at least 7 days before, they'll read it so the session reflects your procedures.
  3. Three hours, with a short break.
  4. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the course covers

  • The principles of infection prevention and control
  • How infections spread, and common healthcare-associated infections
  • Key law: health and safety at work, COSHH, RIDDOR and public health
  • Reporting requirements
  • Reducing infection risk in care settings
  • Hand hygiene and PPE
  • Staff illness and returning to work
  • Managing spills
  • Clinical waste
  • Major infectious agents, including MRSA and C. diff

Who needs this training

All frontline staff in health and social care, and anyone whose work brings them into contact with infection risks:

  • Care and support workers, nurses and healthcare assistants
  • Domestic, housekeeping and laundry staff
  • Kitchen and catering staff in care settings
  • Supported living, domiciliary and day services
  • Dental and GP practice teams

We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What the law says

In England, the Health and Social Care Act 2008 code of practice on the prevention and control of infections applies to all CQC-registered providers, and CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) covers preventing and controlling the spread of infection. The code expects every care worker to understand and carry out their part in preventing and controlling infection — and training is the usual way to show it. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own guidance; in Scotland, the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual.

Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and COSHH, employers must also protect staff from biological hazards at work.

How we assess learning

Learning is checked throughout the session through questions and discussion, and a hand hygiene practical.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches infection control in terms of your setting — the rooms, routines and people your staff work with. If you send your policies in advance, they'll read them so the session reflects your procedures.

Logistics

  • Room: seating for up to 12, classroom style, with a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
  • Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
  • Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, or live online
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.

More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be done online?

Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session. Most of it is knowledge-based, so it works well online.

Does it cover outbreaks?

It covers how infections spread, reporting requirements and the major infectious agents in care settings. If you send your outbreak plan at least 7 days before, your trainer will read it so the discussion reflects your procedures.

Is it suitable for non-clinical staff?

Yes. Domestic, laundry and kitchen teams play as big a part in infection control as carers and nurses, and the session is relevant to all of them.

Why not e-learning?

E-learning gives everyone the same slides. Here, a trainer talks your team through your own setting and procedures, and answers their questions as they go. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.

How long does the certificate last?

Three years. Many services refresh more often, in line with their own policy.

Can we train more than 12?

Yes. Run two sessions on the same day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
