What the law says
Employers must assess the risks to their staff at work, including violence and aggression, and act to reduce them — under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in Great Britain, with equivalent law in Northern Ireland. HSE defines work-related violence as any incident in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work. Training staff to recognise and calm conflict, and to keep themselves safe, is one of the ways to reduce that risk.
This course is non-physical: it teaches no restraint, restrictive intervention or breakaway techniques.
How we assess learning
Staff practise scenarios drawn from their own work, and the trainer gives feedback and tests understanding through questions.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and keeps it practical: what to say, how to stand and when to walk away, practised on situations your staff actually face.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
- Timing: agreed with you when you enquire; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions
Does this include physical techniques?
No. It's non-physical: no restraint, restrictive intervention or breakaway techniques. If staff also need to get away safely from a grab or hold, see Breakaway.
Is this the NHS conflict resolution syllabus?
No. It's Kasorb's own course, covering the core skills. It isn't the former NHS national conflict resolution syllabus.
How is this different from de-escalation training?
They overlap. This course is for any workplace that deals with the public, and includes personal safety and lone working. Our de-escalation course focuses on behaviour that challenges in care settings.
Does it cover lone working?
Yes. Staff learn to assess risk as a situation develops, keep themselves safe when working alone, and know when to leave.
Can you use situations from our workplace?
Yes. Tell us about the situations your staff face when you enquire, and the trainer builds the practice scenarios around them.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff — not a recorded module.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates. If you need something sooner, just ask.
