Ventilator training for nurses, on your service user's own ventilator
3 hours · Up to 10 staff · Trained on the make and settings your service user actually uses
Safe use of a ventilator training teaches nurses to use and look after the ventilator a service user depends on: why it's needed, setting up effective ventilation, recognising deterioration using NEWS2, the emergency action plan, and resetting and cleaning. Kasorb delivers it on-site in three hours, on the service user's own ventilator, for up to 10 staff. It's quoted for your team.

Compliance and certification
Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years, for your training file, and we recommend an annual refresher. It isn't a regulated qualification. Settings and prescribed parameters stay with the prescribing clinician; the course trains staff to use, monitor and respond safely. Your team leaves trained and ready for your own competency sign-off against the care plan. The training counts towards staff CPD.

How it works
- Enquire with your postcode and team size, and the make and model of the ventilator. We'll come back with a price within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
- Your trainer calls beforehand about the service user's care plan, their ventilation and the logistics.
- Three hours on the ventilator itself — it needs to be available on the day.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.
- Then your own competency sign-off against the care plan.
What the course covers
- Why a ventilator is needed, and the key aims of ventilation

What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects the people providing care and treatment to have the qualifications, competence, skills and experience to do so safely, and expects equipment to be used in a safe way. For someone who depends on a ventilator, that means every nurse on shift knowing how to use it, monitor the person and act in an emergency. A training record on the service user's own ventilator, followed by your own competency sign-off against the care plan, is the evidence inspectors and commissioners look for. Care regulators in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland expect the same of the services they inspect.
How we assess learning
Staff work through set-up, monitoring and the emergency action plan on the ventilator, with feedback from the trainer, and understanding is tested through questions and discussion. After the course, your own competency sign-off against the care plan confirms each person in practice.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, as a clinical professional. They talk to you beforehand about the service user's care plan and ventilator, so the session is about the person your team actually supports.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is that staff can gather round the ventilator, with a projector screen or blank wall
- You provide: the ventilator your service user uses, available for the session
- The trainer brings: all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 10
- Timing: three hours, morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, on-site
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
Clinical courses are priced by location: they're taught by specialist clinical trainers, and the price depends on where you are and how far your trainer needs to travel. Send us your postcode and team size and we'll confirm the price within 48 hours. It's one price for the group, up to 10 staff — not per person.
More than 10 staff? We'll quote for another session.

Frequently asked questions
Do you train on our ventilator?
Yes — on the make and model your service user uses. Tell us which when you enquire, and make sure it's available on the day.
Will staff change ventilator settings?
Settings are prescribed by the clinical team. Staff learn to use the ventilator safely, monitor the person, and act on the emergency plan.
Does it cover emergencies?
Yes. Staff learn to recognise deterioration using NEWS2, and rehearse the emergency action plan: when to act, and how.
How is this different from tracheostomy care training?
Tracheostomy care covers the tube itself: cleaning, suction, changes and tracheostomy emergencies. This course covers the ventilator. If the person you support is ventilated through a tracheostomy, staff usually need both.
How often should staff refresh?
The certificate is valid for three years, but we recommend an annual refresher — these skills can't afford to fade.
Can it be done online?
No. Training is on the ventilator itself, so it's on-site only.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
