Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. We recommend refreshing every three years, or every year for staff who don't use these skills day to day. It's awareness training that helps staff recognise sepsis and escalate quickly in line with your own procedures. It isn't a regulated qualification.

How it works

  1. Book online. One session, or two in one day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
  2. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics. Tell them who you support and how escalation works in your service, and they'll talk it through in those terms.
  3. Three hours, with a short break.
  4. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the course covers

  • What sepsis is
  • Early signs and symptoms, and septic shock
  • Common sources of infection
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment
  • The roles of staff, the person and the organisation
  • Recovery from sepsis
  • Documentation

Who needs this training

Anyone involved in caring for people at risk of sepsis:

  • Care and support workers in residential, nursing and home care
  • Senior carers, team leaders and nurses
  • Supported living and learning disability services
  • Staff supporting older people, people with long-term conditions, or people recovering from surgery or illness

We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What the law says

Sepsis is a medical emergency, and the sooner it's recognised and treated, the better the outcome. NICE guidance on suspected sepsis sets out how to recognise it and act early, and care staff are often the first to notice that someone is becoming unwell.

In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects providers to assess and reduce risks to people's health and safety, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need for their role. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards, which also expect staff to be trained to meet people's needs.

How we assess learning

Your trainer tests understanding throughout the session through case studies and questions.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches sepsis in terms of the people you support — so staff know what to look out for on shift, and what to do next.

Logistics

  • Room: horseshoe or classroom seating for up to 12 — what matters is clear floor space — with a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
  • Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
  • Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, or live online
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.

More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.

Frequently asked questions

Who is most at risk of sepsis?

Anyone with an infection can develop sepsis, but some people are at higher risk — including older people, very young children, people with long-term conditions or weakened immune systems, and people who've recently had surgery or been unwell. The course covers how to spot the risk in the people you support.

Can it be done online?

Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's knowledge- and discussion-based, so it works well online.

How is this different from infection control training?

Infection control is about stopping infections spreading. Sepsis awareness is about recognising when someone's body is reacting dangerously to an infection, and getting help fast. Many services book Infection Control alongside it.

Why not e-learning?

E-learning can list the signs of sepsis. Here, staff work through case studies with a trainer, talk through what they'd do and who they'd tell, and ask questions about the people they support. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.

How long does the certificate last?

We recommend refreshing every three years, or every year for staff who don't use these skills day to day.

Can we train more than 12?

Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff. For more than 24, book another day at the same flat rate.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
