Full day · On-site or live online · Observations, deterioration and antipsychotic side effects
Physical healthcare in mental illness training helps staff look after the physical health of people with mental illness: the higher risks of diabetes, heart disease and stroke, taking and interpreting observations, knowing when to act and how to record it, and the side effects of antipsychotic medicines. Kasorb delivers it in a full day, on-site or live online. £895+VAT covers up to 12 staff (10 online).
- Core observations, and what the numbers mean
- When to act on a change in someone's observations, and how to record it
- Antipsychotic side effects, and why some medicines need blood tests
- £895+VAT for the full day — up to 12 staff on-site or 10 online, not per person
- Certificates emailed the next day

What the law says
People with severe mental illness are more likely to die early than the general population, often from preventable physical illness such as heart disease and diabetes. NICE guidance on psychosis and schizophrenia recommends regular physical health monitoring for people taking antipsychotic medicines — and the staff around them are often the first to notice a change.
In England, CQC's Regulation 9 (person-centred care) expects care to meet people's physical as well as mental health needs, Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects providers to assess and manage risks to people's health, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need to do that.
How we assess learning
Learning is checked throughout the day through questions and discussion.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches physical healthcare in terms of the people your staff support — the observations they take, the medicines people are on, and the changes that mean it's time to act.

Frequently asked questions
Which observations does it cover?
Temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and blood glucose — what each one tells you, what the numbers mean, and when to act.
How is this different from mental health awareness training?
Mental health awareness builds understanding of mental health and mental ill health. This course is about the physical health of people with mental illness: observations, spotting deterioration, and the side effects of the medicines they take.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 10 staff — not a recorded module.
Why not e-learning?
Knowing when a set of observations means you need to act comes from talking through real situations. A trainer works through them with your team and answers questions about the people you support. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £75 a head.
How long does the certificate last?
We recommend a refresher every three years.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Book another day at the same flat rate.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
