Trusted by health, workplace and care teams across the UK

Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. Certificates for the care version are valid for three years, and we recommend refreshing the workplace version on the same cycle. It isn't a regulated qualification.

How it works

  1. Book online — the care version as a half day or full day, or the workplace version for managers. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
  2. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and to understand your team or service.
  3. Half a day (3 hours) or a full day (6 hours), discussion-based, with case studies and practice conversations.
  4. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the course covers

Workplace version (for managers):

  • Mental health and wellbeing at work
  • Stress, performance and common conditions
  • Duty of care and the Equality Act
  • Conversations about mental health and active listening
  • Supporting attendance and managing absence

Care version:

  • The concept of mental health, and mental health versus mental illness
  • Stress and vulnerability
  • Major conditions: depression, anxiety and psychosis
  • Mental health law, treatment approaches and recovery

Both versions: looking after yourself.

Who needs this training

Workplace version: managers, team leaders and supervisors in any sector who support staff with their mental health, manage stress-related absence or need to start a difficult conversation.

Care version: care, support and healthcare staff supporting people with mental health needs — in residential care, supported living, domiciliary care and mental health services.

We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What the law says

Employers must assess the risks to their staff's health at work, including work-related stress — under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in Great Britain, with equivalent regulations in Northern Ireland. HSE's Management Standards set out how to manage the causes of work-related stress, and managers are central to them. Mental health conditions can also count as a disability under the Equality Act 2010 in Great Britain, so managers need to know when reasonable adjustments apply.

In care settings in England, CQC's Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need to support people safely — including people with mental health needs.

How we assess learning

Learning is checked throughout the session, through case studies, practice conversations and questions.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real, and runs the session as a discussion — with case studies and practice conversations, so staff leave knowing what to say, not just what to look for.

Logistics

  • Room: seating for up to 12, classroom style, with a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
  • Group size: up to 12 face to face, 10 online
  • Timing: half day 09:30–12:30 or 13:30–16:30, or a full day 09:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, or live online
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£495+VAT for up to 12 staff (10 online) — the same price for a half day or a full day, and for either version. A half-day booking is a day rate: run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff on-site.

More to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.

Frequently asked questions

Which version should we book?

Managers and team leaders: the workplace version. Staff supporting people with mental health needs: the care version.

Half day or full day?

Both cost the same. The full day goes into more depth, with more time for case studies and practice conversations.

How is this different from mental health first aid training?

This course builds awareness and confidence across a whole team. Mental health first aid training is a two-day course that prepares named people to support colleagues who are struggling.

Can it be done online?

Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 10 staff.

Why not e-learning?

Mental health is learned best by talking it through. A trainer works through real situations with your team, practises the conversations that matter, and answers questions about your own workplace or service. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.

How long does the certificate last?

Care-version certificates last three years, and we recommend refreshing the workplace version on the same cycle.

Can we train more than 12?

Yes. For a half day, run two sessions on the same day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff on-site. For a full day, book another day at the same flat rate.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
