Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years. It's awareness-level training for staff who support people with diabetes; it doesn't train staff to give insulin. It isn't a regulated qualification.

How it works

  1. Book online. One session, or two in one day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
  2. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and to understand your service and the people you support.
  3. Three hours, with a short break — discussion-based, with case studies.
  4. Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the course covers

  • What diabetes is
  • How insulin works
  • The signs, symptoms and features of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Risk factors
  • Treatment options
  • Recognising and responding to hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
  • Supporting self-care

Who needs this training

Health and social care staff who support people with diabetes:

  • Care and support workers
  • Senior carers and team leaders
  • Cooks and kitchen staff who plan meals with people
  • Residential care, nursing homes, home care and supported living

We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

What the law says

In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) expects providers to assess and reduce risks to people's health, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need to meet the needs of the people they support — including people living with diabetes. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards, which also expect staff to be trained for the people they support.

How we assess learning

Learning is assessed throughout the session, through case studies and questions.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches diabetes in terms of the people your staff support, using case studies — so they recognise the signs of a hypo or a hyper and know what to do.

Logistics

  • Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — for up to 12, with a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
  • Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
  • Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, or live online
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.

More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cover giving insulin?

No. It explains how insulin works, but doesn't train staff to give it. Giving insulin is covered in Diabetes & Insulin Administration, a full-day course.

Do staff need a clinical background?

No. It's awareness level and starts with what diabetes is and how insulin works, so it suits care and support staff in any role.

Can it be done online?

Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's discussion-based, with case studies, so it works well online.

Why not e-learning?

E-learning can describe the symptoms of a hypo. Here, staff work through case studies with a trainer and ask about the people they actually support. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.

How long does the certificate last?

Three years.

Can we train more than 12?

Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
