Compliance and certification
Each person receives a Kasorb certificate of completion, which doesn't expire. It's training for staff who support the people in their care to stop smoking. It isn't NCSCT certification, and it isn't a regulated qualification.

Who needs this training
Nurses, practitioners and support staff who help people to stop smoking:
- Mental health inpatient and community teams, especially on smoke-free sites
- Hospital and inpatient ward staff
- Nursing and residential care teams
- Healthcare assistants and support workers
- Staff who run, or will run, stop smoking sessions in health and care services
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
No law requires smoking cessation training. But smoking is the leading cause of preventable illness and early death in the UK, and NICE guidance on tobacco expects health and care services — including mental health services — to identify people who smoke and offer them support to stop, including nicotine replacement therapy. Training gives staff the knowledge to do that well, and gives you evidence for your training file.
In care settings in England, CQC's Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need to support people safely.
How we assess learning
Learning is checked throughout the day through questions and discussion.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and runs the day around the people your staff support — so the advice on nicotine replacement and running stop smoking sessions fits your service, not a generic one.
Logistics
- Room: seating for up to 12, classroom style, with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 face to face, 10 online
- Timing: 09:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions
Is this NCSCT certification?
No. It's Kasorb's own course, and staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. If you work in a commissioned stop smoking service, check whether your commissioner requires certification from the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) — that's a separate route.
Is it suitable for mental health services?
Yes. It suits mental health and inpatient services with smoke-free policies, where staff support people who smoke — including with nicotine replacement therapy.
Does it cover carbon monoxide monitoring?
Yes — what CO monitoring is, why it's used in stop smoking support, and how it fits into running a session.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 10 staff — not a recorded module.
Why not e-learning?
Helping someone stop smoking is about the conversation as much as the facts. A trainer works through it with your team and answers questions about the people you support. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £83 a head.
How long does the certificate last?
It doesn't expire.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
