- Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 9 (person-centred care) requires care and treatment to be appropriate, meet people's needs and reflect their preferences — which means assessing needs, planning care with the person, and reviewing it. Regulation 17 (good governance) expects an accurate, complete and contemporaneous record for each person, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need for their role. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards, which also expect care to be planned around the person.
Where someone may lack capacity to make decisions about their care, care planning must also follow the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in England and Wales.
How we assess learning
Learning is checked throughout the session through questions and discussion, and staff practise writing SMART outcomes from case studies.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches care planning in terms of your setting and the people you support. Send your care plan templates or policy in advance and they'll use them in the session.

Frequently asked questions
Can you use our care plan templates?
Yes. Send your templates, and your care planning policy if you'd like, in advance, and your trainer will work with them in the session.
We use a digital care planning system. Does that matter?
No. The principles are the same for digital and paper plans, and the trainer can work with anonymised screenshots or exports you send in advance.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session. It's knowledge- and discussion-based, so it works well online.
How is this different from defensible documentation training?
Care planning is about planning care with the person and writing outcomes that guide support on shift. Defensible documentation is about keeping records that are accurate, accountable and stand up to scrutiny.
Why not e-learning?
E-learning can show staff what a good care plan looks like. Here, staff practise writing outcomes from case studies, with a trainer on hand to answer questions about your own documentation. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions on the same day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
