Compliance and certification
Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion for your training file. It's awareness training: it doesn't prepare anyone to carry out work with asbestos-containing materials, which needs further training. How often staff refresh is set by your own policy, and we'll recommend a refresh interval. It isn't a regulated qualification.

Who needs this training
Anyone whose normal work could disturb asbestos, and the people who supervise them:
- Maintenance, estates and facilities staff, caretakers and site managers
- Electricians, plumbers, joiners, plasterers, painters and decorators, and other trades
- Heating, gas, telecoms, alarm and data installers
- Managers responsible for older buildings, including care homes and schools
It doesn't qualify anyone to work with asbestos: licensed and non-licensed work need further training.
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires employers to give adequate information, instruction and training to employees who are, or could be, exposed to asbestos, and to those who supervise them — repeated at regular intervals. Northern Ireland has equivalent regulations. HSE's guidance says awareness training is for anyone liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work, and gives them the information they need to avoid work that may disturb it.
Anyone responsible for maintaining or repairing non-domestic premises, including care homes and schools, also has a duty to manage asbestos under regulation 4. HSE says asbestos can be found in any building built before 2000.
How we assess learning
The trainer reviews learning throughout the session through questions, discussion and real-world examples.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and keeps the session practical: where asbestos turns up in the kinds of buildings your staff work in, and what to find out before starting a job that could disturb it.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space and a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12, on-site or live online
- Timing: agreed with you when you enquire; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions
Does this qualify staff to work with asbestos?
No. Awareness training helps staff avoid disturbing asbestos. Licensed and non-licensed work with asbestos-containing materials needs further training.
Is this course UKATA or IATP accredited?
No. It's Kasorb's own course, delivered to HSE's guidance on asbestos awareness training. HSE leaves it to the employer to decide whether a training provider is suitable.
How often should staff refresh?
HSE doesn't require the full awareness course to be repeated every year, but expects some form of refresher as needed. We'll recommend an interval based on the work your staff do.
Is this Category A training?
Yes. Asbestos awareness training is sometimes called Category A, and this is that course.
Do care home and school staff need it?
Staff whose work could disturb asbestos do — usually maintenance staff, caretakers and site managers. HSE says other staff should know not to disturb or damage asbestos materials, for example by pinning work to walls, and to report any damage.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
