Compliance and certification

Each person receives a Kasorb certificate of completion. It doesn't expire for leads who use the skills day to day, but we recommend an annual refresher to keep up with changes in legislation and policy. It isn't a regulated qualification. This version covers England and Wales; a Scotland version is available.

How it works

  1. Enquire with your postcode and group size, and say which version you need: adults only, or adults and children; England & Wales or Scotland. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date.
  2. Check everyone has Level 2 safeguarding — it's the prerequisite.
  3. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and to understand your service and the people you support.
  4. Two days, 09:30–16:30 each day, on-site or live online. Discussion-based, built around real scenarios and your own procedures if you send them in advance.
  5. Certificates are emailed the day after the second day.

Who needs this training

Designated safeguarding leads, deputy leads, registered managers and senior staff with safeguarding responsibility — in care homes, nursing homes, supported living, home care, and health and children's care services. All other staff need our Level 2 Safeguarding Adults course.

Before this course: staff need Level 2 safeguarding training. We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.

England & Wales or Scotland: this version covers legislation in England and Wales. A Scotland version, covering Scottish legislation and guidance, is available — tell us when you book.

What the law says

In England, CQC's Regulation 13 requires registered health and social care providers to protect people from abuse and improper treatment. To show this, inspectors typically expect a named safeguarding lead whose training goes beyond that of frontline staff, at a level that matches their responsibilities.

In healthcare, this is set out in the Intercollegiate Documents: commonly Level 3 for leads in smaller services such as GP practices, and higher for named professionals in larger organisations. In social care, there's no single mandated level, so training should reflect what the lead actually does.

The lead coordinates the organisation's response when a concern is raised: they advise colleagues, decide when to refer to the local authority, make sure notifications to CQC are made, and make sure actions are recorded and followed up. That's why their training goes beyond awareness.

How we assess learning

Learning is checked through discussion, case studies and questions throughout both days. There's no written assessment.

Your trainer

Most of our trainers are experienced safeguarding leads, and all are trained and qualified to deliver this course.

Logistics

  • Room: classroom, boardroom or U-shape seating
  • You provide: a projector screen or blank wall, and a flipchart
  • The trainer brings: laptop, projector and all training materials
  • Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
  • Group size: up to 14 face to face, 12 online
  • More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
  • Timing: 09:30–16:30 both days; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions

Is this Level 3?

Yes — it's the higher level for safeguarding leads. Frontline staff need Level 2, which is our Safeguarding Adults course.

Adults, or adults and children?

Both are available. Choose adults and children if your service supports both, or the lead covers both. Under English law (Children Act 1989), a child is anyone under 18 and an adult is anyone aged 18 or over.

How often should leads refresh?

The certificate doesn't expire for leads using the skills day to day, but we recommend an annual one-day refresher to keep up with changes in legislation and policy.

Do staff need Level 2 first?

Yes — this course builds on Level 2 safeguarding training.

Is it suitable for schools?

It's built for care and health settings. School DSLs follow Keeping Children Safe in Education, which needs a school-specific course.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
