How it works
- Enquire with your postcode, group size and preferred dates. We'll come back with a price within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates. If you need something sooner, just ask.
- Confirm your date, and whether you'd like the session on-site or live online.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics and understand your team and setting.
- A full day (09:30–16:30), discussion-based, with practical exercises and time to build each person's action plan.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.
What the course covers
- What emotional intelligence is, and why it matters at work
- Self-awareness: noticing your own emotions and what triggers them
- Managing your own emotions, especially under pressure
- Empathy: understanding how others feel and see things
- Social skills and working relationships
- Emotional intelligence in leadership
- Your personal action plan
By the end, your staff will be able to:
- recognise their own emotional triggers and how they affect their behaviour
- respond rather than react in pressured situations
- use empathy to improve conversations with colleagues, customers and the people they support
Who needs this training
Managers, team leaders and anyone who works closely with others, for example:
- New and experienced managers, and staff moving into a leadership role
- Team leaders and supervisors
- Staff in pressured, people-facing roles — in care, health, reception and customer-facing teams
- Teams that want to improve how they work together
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
There's no legal requirement for emotional intelligence training. It's a development course that supports communication, teamwork and leadership. In health and care services in England, CQC's Regulation 18 (staffing) expects staff to receive the training and professional development they need for their role, and a course like this can form part of that.
It isn't a regulated qualification.
How we assess learning
The trainer reviews learning throughout the day through practice, questions and discussion. Each person applies the tools to a real situation from their own work and agrees an action plan with the trainer.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and runs the day as a discussion, not a lecture — so staff can talk through real situations from their own work.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space for the group exercises
- You provide: a room for up to 12, with a screen or blank wall for slides
- The trainer brings: the course materials and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12, face to face or live online
- Timing: 09:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Frequently asked questions
Can emotional intelligence be learned?
The course treats it as a set of skills: noticing your own reactions, managing them, and reading and responding to other people. Skills improve with practice, which is why everyone leaves with a personal action plan.
Is it only for managers?
No. It suits anyone who works closely with others, especially in pressured, people-facing roles. Managers also look at emotional intelligence in leadership.
Is it suitable for health and care teams?
Yes. Trainers use examples from your setting — for example, staying calm with a distressed relative, or giving difficult feedback to a colleague.
How is this different from stress management training?
Stress awareness and management is about recognising and reducing work-related stress. Emotional intelligence is broader: understanding and managing emotions — your own and other people's — to communicate and work together better. The two work well together.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff. It's discussion-based, so it works well online. Each person needs a quiet space and a device with camera and audio.
What do we need to provide, and is there anything else to pay?
A room for up to 12 with a screen or blank wall for slides — or, for live online, a device with camera and audio for each person joining. There's nothing else to pay: the price covers your trainer, their travel and the course materials.
How quickly can you come?
We'll come back with a price within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates. If you need something sooner, just ask.
