It was an interesting moment. The staff were very supportive, and I also observed that they are master of the subject.

- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics, and to understand your service and the people you support.
- Three hours, with a short break — discussion-based, with case studies.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.

What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 9 (person-centred care) expects care to meet people's needs and reflect their preferences — including their wishes for the end of their life — and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need for their role. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards, which also expect care to be planned around the person.
NICE's guideline on care of dying adults in the last days of life (NG31) sets out good practice, including recognising when someone may be dying, communicating with them and the people important to them, and shared decision-making.
How we assess learning
Learning is assessed throughout the session, through case studies and questions.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and handles the subject with care — some staff may have supported someone at the end of life recently. The session is a discussion, built around case studies.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — for up to 12, with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
- Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.
More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from palliative care training?
Palliative care training covers the whole course of a life-limiting illness. This course focuses on the end of life: the last months and days, and supporting the person and their family.
Does it cover advance care planning?
Yes — what advance care planning is, and how it helps make sure the person's wishes are known and followed.
Is it suitable for staff who haven't supported someone at the end of life before?
Yes. It starts with the principles of end of life care, and the trainer handles the subject with care — some staff may have recently lost someone they supported, or someone close to them.
Is this Gold Standards Framework training?
No. It's Kasorb's own end of life care course, and staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's discussion-based, with case studies, so it works well online.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
