How it works
- Book online. One session, or two in one day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics. If you'd like the session focused on someone you support, share anonymised details and the themes of their care plan in advance.
- Three hours, with a short break.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.

Who needs this training

We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 9 (person-centred care) expects care to meet people's needs and reflect their preferences, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need to support the people in their care. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards with the same expectation.
As Huntington's progresses, a person's capacity to make some decisions may change. In England and Wales, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 sets out how decisions are made with and for people who may lack capacity — which is why planning ahead matters.
How we assess learning
Your trainer tests understanding throughout the session through case studies and questions.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches Huntington's in terms of the person you support — how the condition affects them now, and how to plan for what comes next.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating for up to 12 — what matters is clear floor space — with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
- Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.
More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.
Frequently asked questions
Is this suitable if we support one person with Huntington's?
Yes. Many services book it when they admit someone with the condition, so the whole team understands their needs from the start.
Can you tailor it to the person we support?
Yes. Share anonymised details and the themes of their care plan in advance, with appropriate consent, and the trainer will focus on them.
Is Huntington's inherited?
Yes. It's caused by a faulty gene, and each child of a parent with the gene has a 50% chance of inheriting it. The course covers the genetics and what they can mean for families.
How is this different from Parkinson's awareness training?
Both conditions affect movement, but Huntington's is inherited and also affects thinking, behaviour and mood, which changes how care needs to be planned. Our Parkinson's Awareness course covers Parkinson's.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's knowledge- and discussion-based, so it works well online.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff. For more than 24, book another day at the same flat rate.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
