Compliance and certification
Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion. We recommend refreshing every three years, or sooner if your own policy requires. It's training for staff who write daily records, and it supports your own record-keeping policy. It isn't a regulated qualification.

Course specification
How it works
- Book online. One session, or two in one day, on-site or live online. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date — live online offers the best availability of dates.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics. If you'd like the session to reflect your own record-keeping policy or system, tell them, and send anonymised examples if you'd like.
- Three hours, with a short break.
- Certificates are emailed the next day.
What the course covers

Who needs this training
Anyone who writes or contributes to care records:
- Care and support workers who write daily notes
- Senior carers and team leaders who handle handovers and incidents
- Residential care, nursing homes, supported living and domiciliary care
- New starters, as part of induction
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
In England, CQC's Regulation 17 (good governance) requires providers to keep an accurate, complete and contemporaneous record for each person using the service, and Regulation 18 expects staff to have the training they need for their role. Care regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own standards, which also expect accurate records.
Across the UK, personal information in care records must be handled lawfully under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
How we assess learning
Your trainer tests understanding throughout the session through questions and discussion, and staff practise rewriting sample notes.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and teaches record keeping in terms of the notes your staff actually write — daily records, handovers and incidents.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating for up to 12 — what matters is clear floor space — with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
- Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy
Cost explained
£495+VAT for the day. It's a day rate: one trainer, one day, the same price for one half-day session or two. Run two sessions, morning and afternoon, and train up to 24 staff while the rest of the team covers the floor.
More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Defensible Documentation?
Record Keeping is for all staff who write daily records. Defensible Documentation goes deeper for nurses, seniors and managers — accountability, and how records are used in complaints, inquests and claims.
We use a digital care records system. Does that matter?
No. The principles of a good record are the same on paper and on screen, and the course covers digital care records.
Does it cover data protection?
Yes — confidentiality and data protection for care records, in plain terms.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module. It's knowledge- and discussion-based, so it works well online.
Why not e-learning?
E-learning can tell staff what a good record looks like. Here, staff practise rewriting sample notes with a trainer on hand, and ask questions about the records they actually write. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff. For more than 24, book another day at the same flat rate.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
