Compliance and certification
Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years. It's awareness training that adds depth alongside the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training — it isn't the Oliver McGowan training and isn't a substitute for it. It isn't a regulated qualification.

Who needs this training
Staff who support autistic people, or work alongside autistic colleagues:
- Care and support workers in residential, supported living and domiciliary care
- Learning disability and mental health services
- Healthcare teams
- Schools, colleges and children's services
- Managers who want their teams to be more autism-aware
We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
The Health and Care Act 2022 requires CQC-registered providers in England to make sure their staff receive training on learning disability and autism appropriate to their role. The Oliver McGowan Code of Practice sets the standards that training must meet, and the government names the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism as its preferred and recommended package.
This course isn't the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training and isn't a substitute for it. It's additional awareness training that helps staff apply what they know to the people they support, and gives you evidence for your training file.
How we assess learning
Your trainer reviews learning throughout the session through case studies and questions.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and uses case studies that reflect the people your staff support — so the strategies make sense on shift.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — with a projector screen or blank wall
- The trainer brings: projector, laptop, flipchart and all general training equipment
- Group size: up to 12 per session, on-site or live online
- Timing: morning 09:30–12:30 or afternoon 13:30–16:30; staff arrive 15 minutes early
- Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
- Anywhere in the UK, or live online
- Live online: a quiet space and a device with camera and audio for each person joining — ideally one device each, and never more than two people per device
- More dates online: live online often has more dates available, so it's worth asking if you need training sooner or have people across several locations
- Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

More than 24 to train? Book another day at the same flat rate. Several sites? Book each site through our booking site at no extra cost, or we'll arrange them for a £100+VAT admin fee.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the Oliver McGowan training?
No. It isn't the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training and isn't a substitute for it. It's additional awareness training that goes alongside it.
Can it be done online?
Yes, live with a trainer, for up to 12 staff per session — not a recorded module.
Why not e-learning?
E-learning is cheaper per head, and it suits some staff. A trainer can answer questions about the people your staff support, use your own policies and test understanding as they go. For a full group of 12 it works out at around £41 a head.
Does it cover sensory needs?
Yes — as part of anxiety, structure and predictability, and how small changes to the environment and routine can help.
How is this different from ADHD awareness?
This course focuses on autism. ADHD Awareness covers ADHD. Many people are both autistic and have ADHD, so some services book both.
Can we train more than 12?
Yes. Run two sessions in one day for the same £495+VAT — up to 24 staff.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
