Excellent facilitator and course. Very informative and I now have great confidence now to use the techniques learnt in an emergency.

Compliance and certification
Everyone receives a Kasorb certificate of completion, valid for three years. Ofsted doesn't require an accredited certificate, but some settings' internal policies do — the Qualsafe-accredited version is £140+VAT for the whole course: the same course, with the certificate issued by Qualsafe and a reference booklet for each person.

How it works
- Enquire with your postcode, group size and preferred dates, and say whether you want Qualsafe accreditation. We'll confirm within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date.
- Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm the room and logistics.
- Two days, 09:30 to 17:00, at your setting — 12 hours of training, all face to face. We recommend running the days back to back for the best learning; weekends are available if that helps your ratios.
- Everyone practises and is assessed on infant and child manikins.
- Certificates are emailed the day after the second day.
What the course covers
The topics Ofsted's early years framework sets out for paediatric first aid training (in its Annex A, the list of required course content) — everything in Emergency Paediatric First Aid, plus the wider conditions early years staff deal with. An example lesson plan:
- The role of the paediatric first aider, and assessing an incident
- An unresponsive infant or child: CPR, defibrillation and the recovery position
- Choking
- Bleeding and shock
- Head, neck and back injuries, fractures and dislocations
- Seizures, including febrile seizures
- Asthma, diabetes and other chronic conditions
- Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
- Serious sudden illness, including meningitis
- Burns and scalds, bites and stings, poisoning
- Minor injuries
Who needs this training
- Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders — for the full PFA certificate the early years framework requires
- School reception and early years teams
- Holiday clubs and wraparound care for young children
- Anyone who needs the full qualification rather than the one-day emergency course
Entry requirements: staff must be at least 14 on the first day. We recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy.
What the law says
Ofsted's early years framework requires at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid certificate on the premises — and on outings — whenever children are present. Certificates need renewing every three years, and settings are expected to make staff PFA records available to parents. This two-day course gives you the full certificate, delivered at your setting.
How we assess learning
Practical assessments on infant and child manikins across both days, plus a multiple-choice theory paper. The practical involves kneeling and floor-level work, so staff need appropriate clothing and footwear.
Your trainer
Your trainer has used these skills for real, and brings infant and child manikins, AED trainers and everything else needed for two days of practical training.
Logistics
- Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space — roughly a square metre per person
- You provide: a flipchart and pens, and a clear wall or screen for the projector
- Staff bring: identification — photo ID for the accredited version; any ID is fine otherwise
- Group size: up to 12
- Timing: two days, 09:30–17:00 — ideally back to back; weekends available
- Anywhere in the UK, on-site only
Cost explained
£790+VAT for the full two-day course, up to 12 staff — our day rate for each day. Add Qualsafe accreditation for an additional £140+VAT on the whole course, not per person: £930+VAT accredited, whatever the group size.
For 12 staff that's about £66 a head for the full qualification, without anyone leaving your setting.
Only need two or three people fully qualified? Open courses typically cost £100–£150 a head, so our flat rate is best value from around six staff. A common approach: two or three people on this course, and the rest of the team on our one-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between full and emergency Paediatric First Aid?
Full Paediatric First Aid is 12 hours over two days; Emergency Paediatric First Aid is one day.
Covered in both courses:
- Roles and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation
- Recovery position
- CPR and defibrillation
- Choking
- Seizures
- Bleeding and shock
- Bites and stings
Only in the full two-day course:
- Head, neck and back injuries
- Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions
- Meningitis
- Asthma
- Febrile convulsions
- Diabetic emergencies
- Poisoning
- Burns and scalds
- Electric shock
- Eye, ear and nose conditions
- Extremes of temperature
The full course is the one early years settings need for at least one person on site. Emergency Paediatric First Aid suits staff who don't need the full certificate.
Does this meet Ofsted's requirements?
It covers the topics Ofsted's early years framework sets out for paediatric first aid training, and gives you the full Paediatric First Aid certificate it asks for. Ofsted doesn't require accreditation, but if your internal policy does, choose the Qualsafe-accredited version.
Is there any e-learning?
No — all 12 hours are face to face at your setting, so there's no online module to chase staff to complete.
How long does the certificate last?
Three years. Staff retake the course before it expires to stay qualified.
Can the two days be split?
It's possible, but we don't recommend it: staff learn and retain more with the two days back to back. Weekends are available if that helps keep your ratios covered.
We only need two people with the full certificate — is this right for us?
It's best value from around six staff. If you only need two or three fully qualified, many settings put them on this course and the rest of the team on the one-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm bookings within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
