Trusted by health, workplace and care teams across the UK

Compliance and certification

Staff receive a Kasorb certificate of completion for your training file. It isn't a regulated qualification. How often staff refresh is set by your policy, and we'll recommend a refresh interval when you enquire. Your team leaves fully trained and ready for the usual final step with any clinical skill: your own supervised competency sign-off against your policies. The training counts towards staff CPD.

How it works

  1. Enquire with your postcode and team size. We'll come back with a price within 48 hours. We recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
  2. Tell us about the people you support: the tubes, feeding regimes and care plans your team works with, so your trainer can build the session around them.
  3. Your trainer calls beforehand to confirm logistics and anything specific to your setting.
  4. On the day: the theory, then the practical steps — giving a feed, flushing and site care — with time for questions.
  5. Certificates are emailed the next day.
  6. Then your own supervised competency sign-off, as with any clinical skill.

What the course covers

  • What enteral feeding is, and why PEG and NG tubes are used
  • Giving feeds by pump and by bolus
  • Flushing, and giving medication through the tube
  • Stoma site care, and positioning to reduce the risk of aspiration
  • Mouth care for people who are nil by mouth
  • Recognising and responding to problems: blockage, displacement and infection
  • Caring for an NG tube that's already in place
  • Working to the care plan and the dietitian's regime, and keeping accurate records

By the end, your staff will be able to:

  • give a feed and flush a tube safely, following the care plan
  • carry out stoma site care and daily observations
  • recognise blockage, displacement and infection, and know who to call

Who needs this training

  • Care staff and senior carers supporting people with a PEG or NG tube
  • Nurses and nursing associates
  • Teams in nursing and residential homes, supported living, complex care and home care

A refresher is advised after any gap in using the skills, followed by your own supervised competency sign-off.

What the law says

In England, CQC's Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) and Regulation 18 (staffing) expect staff giving clinical care to have the qualifications, competence, skills and experience to do it safely. Tube feeding carries real risk if it goes wrong, so a training record, followed by your own competency sign-off against each person's care plan, is the evidence inspectors expect to see. Who gives feeds and medication through a tube is set by your policies and how clinical tasks are delegated in your service.

How we assess learning

The trainer takes staff through each procedure step by step and tests understanding through questions, discussion and case studies, with feedback as they go. After the course, your own supervised competency sign-off confirms each person in practice, against the care plan.

Your trainer

Your trainer has used these skills for real. They're a specialist clinical trainer, and they build the session around the tubes and feeding regimes your team supports — tell us about them when you enquire. Clinical training like this counts towards staff CPD.

Logistics

  • Room: horseshoe or classroom seating — what matters is clear floor space, plus a table for the practical
  • You provide: a projector screen or blank wall
  • The trainer brings: laptop, projector and general training equipment
  • Practical equipment: we'll agree with you what's needed for the practical when you enquire
  • Group size: up to 10, so everyone gets time on the practical
  • Timing: agreed with you when you enquire; staff arrive 15 minutes early
  • Access: the trainer needs the room 45 minutes before the start
  • Anywhere in the UK, on-site
  • Literacy: we recommend at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy

Cost explained

Clinical courses are priced by location: they're taught by specialist clinical trainers, and the price depends on where you are and how far your trainer needs to travel. Send us your postcode and team size and we'll confirm the price within 48 hours. It's one price for the group, up to 10 staff — not per person — and it covers your trainer, their travel and the course materials.

More than 10 staff? Book another day at the same rate.

Several sites? Tell us when you enquire and we'll arrange them together.

Frequently asked questions

Can carers give medication through a PEG?

That depends on your policies, how clinical tasks are delegated in your service, and the person's care plan and prescriber. The course covers how it's done safely, so staff who are asked to do it understand each step.

Do you cover NG tubes?

Yes: caring for an NG (nasogastric) tube that's already in place, on the same visit as the PEG training. Inserting NG tubes isn't part of the course.

What if the tube comes out?

Staff learn to recognise a displaced tube, keep the person safe and get help straight away, following the person's care plan and your escalation procedure.

How is this different from dysphagia training?

Dysphagia training is for people who have difficulty swallowing and eat and drink by mouth. PEG and enteral feeding training is for people who are fed through a tube. Some people with a PEG still have small amounts by mouth, so teams often book both.

What do we need to provide, and is there anything else to pay?

A room, a projector screen or blank wall, and any equipment we agree with you for the practical. The price we quote covers your trainer, their travel and the course materials, so there are no surprise extras.

Can it be done online?

No. It's a practical clinical skill, so it's on-site.

How quickly can you come?

We confirm within 48 hours, and we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. If you need something sooner, just ask.
